Located offshore from Taiwan Main Island, Penghu was officially established as Taiwan’s county in 1981. It is the smallest county and one of the three offshore island of Taiwan. Penghu isconsisted of 6 administrative district and 90 islets, only 9 of those are residential areas. It is rich in ocean resources and uninhabited island. Penghu is known for the high quality of aragonites, one of the proud features of Taiwan.

There are 96 villages in Penghu and up to 165 shrines and temples. The frequent religion activities affected the numbers of shrines and temples. Traditional symbols , signs and scultures can be seen around the villages. The Tianhou Temple, Wusheng Temple, Chenghuan Temple, Baoan Temple and Guanyingtin are all histircal heritges passed down through out the years. Archeologists found historical artifacts indicates Penghu was associcated with ancient cultures which traced back to stone age. Thus, Penghu was inhabit with people long before the Penghu we recognize today.

The villages still preserved the traditional style exterior of the buildings. Coral houses, western style houses, and walls built with corals and basalts. The architectural findings tells a great story on the culture with strong fishing industry behind. The farming here focused on growing melons and peanuts. The renowned geological resource is the aragonite. The island is surround by ocean. The magnificient ocean sceneries can easily be seen everywhere on the island and can be different due to the different geological landscape.
