Shueilian Cave, meaning water curtain cave in Chinese, is a cave with waterfall hiding the entrance of a cave.There are many tunnels along the road after entering into the construction detour. This place was known as the Second Taroko Valley.

The Cingshui Cliff rises vertically and majestically from the Pacific Ocean, with an average height of over 800 meters. Besides the magnificent sceneries, it is also an excellent location for admiring sunrise and sunset.

Located near the middle of Taroko, Swallow Grotto is the best place for admiring the gorge inside the national park. Visitors are recommended to walk through the tunnels, enjoy the stream below the cliffs, and watch the swallows fly at the other end.

Indigenous Experience

Hualien is located remotely on the east side of Taiwan. It stays closer to the primitive state rather than the quick development like the cities. One fourth of the populations are the local indigenous. Thus Hualien is rich in the native culture. The tribes in Hualien include the Amis, Truku, Bunun, Seediq, Sakizaya, and Kavalan.

The biggest aboriginal settlement in Taiwan, Tafalong, also known as Taibalang, Settlement is the most important one of the Amis. Tafalong is densely populated and its culture and history can be observed clearly within the settlement.

Buluowan used to be the settlement of the Truku (Taroko) people. There are exhibition halls with arts and crafts of the Taroko Tribe and multimedia presentations in the service station.

Called Kaluluwan by the Amis, the place is now known as Zhichi. The moon shaped Zhichi Bay Lido used to be the place for Amis to evaporate brine and is now a seaside recreation area.

With a total length of 110 km from Xincheng Township to Yuli Township, Highway No. 193 is along the coastline and is one of the most famous roads in Hualien.

The bike trail was reconstructed from the old railway. The great iron bridge connects Yuli and Dongli and has become the landmark of Yuli Town.
