New Taipei City ─ Shihmen Cave

Shihmen Cave is located at the north tip of Taiwan amidst many famous northern coastal scenic spots. It is named after a huge rock by the seashore. After years of sea current erosion, a hole is formed on the rock. As the earth movement pushes the rock further ashore, the entire piece looks like an imposing arch from far.
The Japanese named it Stone Gate during the colonial period and that is how the name Shihmen (stone gate in Chinese) became the location name. There is a hiking route and an observatory platform on top of the cave. It is a great place to observe the rich natural habitat and the flowers during April through May. Fishing and snorkeling are also some popular activities here at Shihmen Cave.
The area offers several attractive tourist spots such as Baisha Beach Resort, Baisha Bay Youth Activity Center, Cape Fuguei Lighthouse, Laumei Park, boating pier, 18 Kings Temple, Jinpaoshan Thousand Buddha Stone Wall, Tioshih Coast and etc. They are all popular tourist spots especially in the summer.
