Mingchih (Bright Lake), nicknamed Chihtuan, is located on the Northern Cross-Island Route at Tatung Village in Yilan County. It is the meeting point for the Kaokan River and Fenfen River. In the compound, there are nursery, jungle trails, and the Youth Activity Center.
The recreation area is only 17 km from Zhialan Nursery. Due to its high altitude, Mingchih (Bright Lake) is laden with fog most year round. Its high altitude and placid landscape fringed by mountain ranges is truly a scene of incredible beauty. Willows and crypress woodland are commonly found here. Visitors can take relaxing strolls on the walkways around the lake area and rest at the various sheds. Accommodation is also available at the cottages and cabins in the woodland. (Reservation must be made one week in advance.)
