Yunlin Storyhouse was built around 1920 to 1923. It was the former residence of Huwei county Magistrate during the Japanese colonial period, constructed according to classic Japanese architectural design. The house was the residential dorm for twelve magistrates during the Japanese occupying, district directors in World War 2 and administrative chiefs later. Abandoned for a few years, but carefully restored and repaired, it is the first case of historical architecture revitalization in Yunlin County.

Yunlin Storyhouse is more than just a house. It is a home of stories, preserving the local life, art, education, culture, literature, and folktale. This old fashion Japanese house is now a cultural platform holding exhibition, demonstration, and sharing historical meaning stories for the next generation. It is dedicated in sustaining local cultural inheritance.

Yunlin Storyhouse is one of the most well preserved historical monuments in comparing with other historical sites in the same class. The interior of the Japanese residence is decorated like it was back in the past, for you to experience the way of life back then. It’s a historical space now holding educational heritage and important traditional event.
