Located next to Fort Huwei, Danshui Martyr's Shrine is a shrine first built during the Japanese occupation in 1939 dedicated to Meiji Tenno; the hundred twenty-second emperor of Japan. The shrine was renamed “New Taipei City (Taipei County) Martyr’s Shrine” after the retrocession of Taiwan. The shrine was remodeled in 1968 in Chinese-palace-style architecture to commemorate the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Anti-Japanese War.Visitors may now find troops of pine trees standing in front of Danshui Martyr’s Shrine. The beautiful sceneries of pine trees are considered one of the eight significant sceneries of Danshui. You may enjoy a great view of Mt. Guanyin while being surrounded by giant pine trees.

Visitors are also suggested to visit Fort Huwei, a historical site telling the past of Taiwan; Fishermen’s Wharf, a romantic wharf popular among all visitors; Danshui Old Street to taste varieties of Taiwanese snacks, and shop for distinctive Danshui souvenirs for your friends and families.
