Xiuguluan River is the largest river in eastern Taiwan, which flows through Rueisuei Town of Hualien County in the East Rift Valley for 90 kilometers and cutting a gorge through the Coastal Moutain Range on its way to the Pacific Ocean. Hualien Xiuguluan River is the prime rafting location in Taiwan for its many rapids especially from the 24km section of Rueisuei Bridge to the Changhong Bridge.

The rafting trip on Xiuguluan River is about 24 kilometers that takes about 3-4 hours to complete. A rafting trip will pass through more than 20 torrents and rapids embraced by spectacular natural sceneries, and topographies. Rafting on Siouguluan River is permitted year-round, the high season for rafting is around April to October.

A rafting trip usually begins in the morning. Participants are to arrive in Rueisuei in the morning and get ready to raft. Lunch will be provided midway at Chimei Rest Area. The observation tower at Chimei offers fascinating sceneries of geologic sediment lines, river bends, Dawu river terraces and Wuhe river terraces. After the trip, participants would shower up, and wrap up their day in Rueisuei on a nice bike ride in the beautiful countryside, as well as some farm visits. Rafting is not allowed to start after 15:00

Rafting on the Xiuguluan River is always full of excitement. Besides rafting, visitors may also choose to take a guided tour on a motor boat down 24 kilometers of the river. While most of the people speed through and not getting a detailed picture of how beautiful the river cuts and bends are, visitors on the guided tour will enjoy a more relaxing way to view the surrounding beauties.
