Huoyanshan means “Flame Mountain” is located at a height of 602 meter. Due to its loose soil vegetation, erosion has caused the disappearance of the mountain ridge. Huoyanshan gets its name for “Flame Mountain” is when you look at the mountain from South, at the sunset; the mountain peak appears to be on fire.
The geological of Huoyanshan formed mostly of Quaternary Period sand & gravel, which gave the ground soil color of red, orange and yellow. Later, due to earth movement, folds were created. Under centuries of erosion, these folds became several highland valleys among five main streams. They are dry and filled with loose rocks during dry season. However, when the torrential rain comes, the cascading water would carry along the rocks down streams causing massive landslide along the nearby Highway.

The inner crust of this mountain consist majority by sea shell fossils, however this area flourished numerous varieties of plants and bushes, and currently, 374 species have been discovered. Hence, it became an ideal dwelling place for wild animals. With its rich natural resources and its scenic beauty, the Forestry Department has classified this area as protected area.
