Mochi or called sticky rice cake is made by beating sticky rice repeatedly into a form of dough. The sticky and chewy sensation of mochi made it very popular in Asia. It’s served during festivals, people getting married, or simply whenever you please. Mochi can be served in many ways, please refer to the ways of making donuts.

Taiwan Mochi Museum is a recreational factory in Nantou. The company had been in the food industry for over 20 years, awarded several times along the way. They started out in the meat business. Due to the competitive environment, business weren’t what they expected. Five years later, they devoted everything into their favorite food, mochi. By examining and observing the exquisite products of mochi from Japan, they improve and explore the possibility of different ways to make mochi. Their best seller is jelly stuffed mochi wrapped in chocolate coat, this little guy successfully promoted mochi internationally.

Taiwan Mochi Museum provides free tasting of mochi and beverages at the entrance. But don’t hold up in there for too long, the fun stuff is on the second floor. They provide fun facts to guide you through the history of mochi and the relation between mochi and the three major ethnic groups in Taiwan (Mingnan, Hakka and Aborigine). Education tours with facts on rice and the actual making of mochi with interesting equipments adding excitements along the tour. Mochi making tutorial class is available for you to make your own mochi any way you like.
Great place to experience and learn more about mochi, and a great chance to purchase wonderful gift for the family and friends back home.
