Kaohsiung Central Park is conveniently located at the intersection of Zhongshan Rd and Wufu Rd in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, next to the (R9) KMRT Central Park Station and close to President Department Store, Shinkuchan Entertainment District, Urban Spotlight, and Kaohsiung Hanshin Department Store.
Being a heavy industrial city in the old days, the Kaohsiung City Government had several city plans to rebuild the city’s image for making it a healthy and highly livable metropolis. As part of the city plans, the park has undergone several transformations with beautiful greeneries and recreational facilities, as well as self-service bike rental machines installed to provide an oasis for the urbanites to enjoy a sense of tranquility and relaxation.
Kaohsiung Central Park is comprised of various greeneries and features, including Kaohsiung Literature Library, Scenic Lake, Middle Island, Speech Square, Water Square, Hedgerow Labyrinth (green maze), and Outdoor Terrace. Kaohsiung Central Park can simply be accessed through a short ride on Kaohsiung MRT to the Central Park Station, which KMRT Kaohsiung Central Park has been named one of the top 15 most beautiful train stations in the world by a well-known travel website “BootsnAll”. KMRT Formosa Boulevard Station is the other Kaohsiung MRT station that has been named on the list.
KMRT Central Park Station is a two-level underground station, the Central Park stop was designed by British architect Richard Rogers. Design-wise, purple is the pervading color throughout the station. The courtyard grass areas, in turn, are covered in a slope of yellow windmills shaped like sunflowers. The Central Park Station of KMRT was placed 4th in the top 15 list.
