Kinmen National Park is a national park includes five areas, which are Taiwu Mountain, Kuningtou ,Gugang, Mashan Hill and Lieyu. The park covers an area of 3780 hectares, about a quarter of Kinmen County area. Established in 1995, it is the 6th national park in Taiwan. This is the first national park in Taiwan aims for protecting the historic and cultural relics such as battlefield monuments due to its historic background. In 16th century, the Japanese pirates constantly harassed Kinmen, so the government geared up the island with fortresses and arms. Since 1949, Kinmen once again became a battlefield between Chinese Communist and Kuomintang. Battlefield relics include the Guningtou Battle Museum and the August 23rd Artillery Battle Museum.

The main architectural style in Kinmen is the southern Fujian buildings, and the local customs are mostly derived from the old traditions and practices of the Fujian region of China. The government has taken steps to preserve the island's cultural sites and practices so that visitors today can observe its vibrant, living culture.
