path / 老山羊

Liyu Lake, also known as Carp Lake or Liyutan, is the biggest inland lake in Hualien County. It is located in Shoufeng Township of Hualien County, about 18 kilometers away from Hualien City. Covering a 104-hectare land, the lake is surrounded by a mountain range, which creates an enchanting reflection on the surface of the lake. Also, the water is clear and see-through year-round. The lake has a length of 2 kilometers in the north-south direction, and has a width of 1.5 kilometers in the east-west direction. It has a depth of 15 meters in the deepest part. The lakeside is fringed by a 4 km circular road where joggers would take an hour to complete. There are interesting statues of a big koi carp, Buddha, as well as other animals on both sides of the road. Why not take a relaxing bike ride or a stroll around the Liyu Lake, and enjoy the beauty of nature in Hualien? There are also BBQ stands, a campsite, a parking lot, and several food stalls. Some stalls even rent out boats and rafts to the public. People gather along the lake every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, May 5th of the lunar calendar, where the most intense dragon boat races are held. It is a traditional cultural festival you do not want to miss!
