Pingxi Old Street

Pingxi Old Street is a renowned attraction to both local and foreign travelers regardless of time and is especially popular during the Lantern Festival. Strolling along the old street often makes local visitors feel nostalgic while offers other travelers chances to know more about the traditional street views in Taiwan.
Renowned for their sky lanterns, Pingxi District held events releasing the flying lanterns annually during the Lantern Festival period. Visitors can write wishes on a sky lantern and release it to the sky in various places within the area. The events always attract thousands of people to see the magnificent scene of innumerable sky lanterns rising into the sky at the same time.
The festival was named as one of the world’s 14 festivals that a person must attend in their lifetime by the giant travel guide publisher, Fordor’s in 2013. At the same year, it was selected as one of the “52 things to do in 2013” by CNN Travel in January of 2013.
