Originally named “Salamao”, Li Shan means Pear Mountain in Chinese. It is located at 1,945 meters elevation of Taichung County, which has become a popular tourist attraction after the opening of the Central Cross-Island Highway. This area is not only a popular attraction sites, but also a residential area with natural scenery.

Li Shan scenic area is located at the middle of East-West Cross-Island Road. In the East of Dajia River and East Lake (Tungfu), there is a natural gorge where the majestic mountains and steep walls are famous sceneries. Rising at a height of 1945 meters, the temperature in summer time is around 24 degree Celsius and around -4 degree Celsius in the winter time. This scenic area is a popular resort to escape heat in summer and enjoy a beautiful snow scene in winter. Here also famous for the fruit cultivation especially pears, peaches, apples and vegetables.

Li Shan Scenic Area has four attraction sites are most visited by tourists, the Kukuan Scenic Area, Li Shan, Wuling Farm and Fushou Shan Farm. Even though it is located at the mountainous area, this area has access for the bus stops, post office, mobile company, banks, gas stations and business hotels, etc. With the vivid season changes on the mountain, you will see the  seas of flowers dot the landscape in spring, fruit trees bear abundant fruits in summer, red maple leaves light up the entire mountain in autumn, and the mountains are blanketed with snows in winter. Near Shoushan entrance, there is a Li Shan Cultural Exhibition Hall, which displays the construction process of the central cross road, development of Li Shan, its ecological make-up, the aborigine Tayal tribe’s cultural relic, and marble sculpturing.

Due to the convenience of traveling route and several famous touring attractions on the way, here becomes one of the perfect gateway for a rejuvenate holiday weekend.



 

Directions:

From Fungyuan Highway Interchange, exit to Fungyuan town and go along No 3 provincial lane to Tungshih.
Connect to the Central Cross-island Road (No 8 state lane), passing Kukuan, Techi and you will arrive Li Shan.
From Fungyuan Highway Interchange to Li Shan, the whole journey is 98.1 km.

You can also go from Hualien Town, go along No 9 provincial lane to Taroko and then continue on No 8 provincial lane westward. The distance is about 132.1 km to Li Shan.
