Located at the southern sea of Magong City, Penghu, Wangan Island situated in the middle of Penghu Island and Qimei Island with an area of about 8.47 square kilometers and was formerly known as Bazhao. Wangan is about 18 nautical miles from Magong and 11 nautical miles from Qimei Island. It takes about 30 minutes traveling by boat from Magong Harbor and about 50-70 minutes to Qimei Island.

Tiantaishan
The island has rugged topography with wave-cut platform around the island. The highest mountain in Wangan is Tiantaishan, which means Tiantai Mountain. It is believed that there is a footprint belonged to Lu Tung-Pin, a Chinese deity revered by Daoists and the most widely known of the group of deities known as the Eight Immortals. Therefore, the mountain has become a popular attraction.

Wangan Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center
Wangan is home to the green turtle, an endangered species of turtles that come here to lay their eggs during nesting season. There is Wangan Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center on the island. Not only does Wangan provide protective nesting areas for the green turtles, but the center also exhibits the natural ecology in Wangan and exhibitions on turtles, environment and ecology. The center often conducts sea turtle release events and sea turtle ecological conservation promotion. It is a great chance to get to know more about the endangered species when traveling to Wangan.

There are many popular sites in Wangan including Budai Port, Jhongshe Traditional Residence, Tiantaishan, Jiangjiyuenyu, Wangan Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center, and Yuanyang Cave. Make sure you don’t miss these wonderful attractions when visiting Penghu.
