Back Cihu, this mysterious Shangri-la area is finally unveiled to the public after the military ban was lifted. In 1950s, Chiang Kai-Shek was travelling to Baiji Tunnel. On the way his motorcade was broken down on the road after he switched to another car and changed direction, he discovered this place-Back Cihu where the view reminded him of his hometown Zhejiang Province, China. Later Chiang purchased the land where Official residences and an air-raid shelter was built in the Back Cihu area. Nowadays, Back Cihu has no military use anymore, by the Taoyuan County government's efforts to open this area to the public in November 2007.

After entering Back Cihu Park, you will come to a 2 km walk of small hill trail. You will see the charm and peaceful lake by the side where President Chiang Kai-Shek and the first lady used to stroll up here and drift a boat. There are also extraordinarily birch trees and incense cedar trees along the trails. Since Back Cihu is still a restricted zone, you need to apply for entry approval with Taoyuan County Scenic Area Administration Office. In the park, they will assign you a volunteer tour guide to accompany you or you can also have the option of join a tourist group to learn the beauty of Back Cihu.
