Once the longest bridge in Asia the Dashu District was renovated in 2002 by the Kaohsiung City Government into an ecological park. The wetland park is rich in flora and spacious for outdoor recreation. With a total area of 120 hectares, the Dashu Old Railway Bridge Wetland Park is built along the western side of the Gaoping River stretching from the Gaoping Bridge to the northern beach of the Old Railway Bridge. The Old Railway Bridge is now designated as a class two national historical monument. The park includes outdoor plaza, constructed wetlands, the aqua space, green landscape, bike lanes and all kinds of facilities, providing leisure activities along the Gaoping River. With the vintage steel bridge, colorful sunset, the Old Railroad Bridge stood steadily on the green marsh forming amazing scenery. The park is the perfect location for outdoor education and eco-tourism in Kaohsiung and Pingtung. It preserved rich natural habitat and it’s an ideal place for ecological photography.
