The Temple of Confucius is a temple devoted to the memory of Confucius, the sages and philosophers of Confucianism. The temple is located on the Gongyuan Street near by the north of Qinhuai River in nanjing and it was first built in 1034 during the Song dynasty and reconstructed with the original stonework recently. The Temple of Confucius consists of two big courtyards separated by a small one. The first courtyard is dominated by the Hall of the Great Saint. The hall of Great Saint has a tall double-eaves roof and it's the largest building in the temple.The Ceremony of Confucius is held on September 28th every year to commemorate Confucius's birthday in the Temple of Confucius. This ceremony usually attracts lots of locals and tourists to view the rite of ceremony. The Confucius Ceremony begins with a ritual to welcome Confucius' spirit. During the ceremony, visitors can appreciate the ancient court music and Yi dance in the Temple of Confucius. In the end of the ceremony, everyone will be able to take Confucius' birthday presents home, such as wisdom cake, the miniature copy of the Analects and the ancient collection of Confucius' conversations with his disciples.
