Here are some useful information about Taiwan’s hot springs and tips for a memorable Taiwan hot spring trip.
Hot Spring Types
Mud Spring
Character : The color of the mud spring water usually looks grey or black.
Location : (Southern Taiwan) Guanziling Hot Spring in Tainan City.
Sulfur Spring
Character : The color of this hot spring is usually yellow or milky white with a strong smell.
Location :(Northern Taiwan) Wanli in New Taipei City
(Taipei County) and Yangmingshan in Taipei City.
(East Taiwan) Green Island in Taitung County.
Ferrous Spring
Character : The spring water is drinkable and contains high concentration of metallic elements.
Location : (Eastern Taiwan) Rueisuei in Hualien County.
Sodium Carbonate Spring
Character : The spring water is colorless and odorless.
Location :(Northern Taiwan) Jiaoxi in Yilan County.

Hot Spring Tips & Advices
- "Warm Up" with hot spring water first.Splash water from your feet up to the shoulders to moisture your whole body.
- Soak into the hot spring pool, first to the height of your chest for about 3-5 minutes, then to the height of your shoulders.
- If you start to have difficulty in breathing, you may want to take a rest for awhile.
- The recommended time for taking a hot spring bath is about 15 minutes each time. Please take the hot spring bath less than 3 times a day to keep your sebum.
- Take a good rest before taking your hot spring bath.
- If you have the feeling of palpitations and giddiness, you should get out of the pool for a rest.
- For elders or people who have heart diseases, they are recommended to lean against the pool.
- Elderly people or children are suggested to be accompanied.
- Avoid the hot spring outfall when you soak in the pool. The best and the most suitable temperature is between 38 - 40℃. Temperature over 45℃ might cause scald burns.
- Crapulence should be avoided after taking a hot spring bath.
- Do not drink coffee, tea, or alcohol before taking a hot spring bath.
