You are invited to take a short Taipei MRT ride to Danshui District of New Taipei City, Taiwan for mesmerizing natural sceneries, historical sites as well as extensive arrays of local delicacies that will make you linger on.

Danshui, about a 40 minute MRT ride from Taipei Main Station, was an important Taiwan harbor back in Ching Dynasty. Danshui District has mesmerizing sceneries and well-preserved historical sites include Little White House, Fort San Domingo, Fort Huwei, Martyr’s Shrine, Danshui Fisherman’s Wharf, Danshui Red Castle and many others.

Fort San Domingo
Fort San Domingo is an important historical asset of Taiwan. The fort was first built in 1628 by the Spanish during the period when they occupied north of Taiwan, rebuilt by the Dutch in 1644 and later served as the British consolation office. Fort San Domingo not only famed for its well-preserved architectures and the rich historical background, but also a popular Danshui attraction for beautiful sunset views. It has been recognized as Grade One Historic Site of Taiwan by the Ministry of the Interior of Taiwan. Fort San Domingo may simply be accessed by taking bus R26 bound for Danshui Fisherman’s Wharf and get off at Fort San Domingo. It takes about a 15 minute bus ride from the MRT station to Fort San Domingo.

Drop of Water Memorial
Opened to the public in March, 2011, the Drop of Water Memorial is an ancient Japanese building established in 1915 by the farther of Minakami Tsutomu. The building is activated after a three and a half months long relocation work from Japan to Danshui. The Drop of Water Memorial is a beautiful Japanese style building which is about one kilometer away about 15 minutes walk away from Fort San Domingo.
