The Irish Tap dance show “Riverdance” will be performing its farewell show at the Shanghai Grand Stage on the 12th January 2011. Their first performance was followed by a standing ovation during the interval of the Eurovision Song Contest on April 30th, 1994 and it was then voted the most popular interval act in the history of Eurovision Song Contest which lasted 50 years. In 2000, Riverdance was on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre with an all-new show featuring dance leads Pat Roddy and Eileen Martin and singers Brian Kennedy and Tsidii Le Loka.

Riverdance is a combination of Irish tap dance, music and opera arts. After their initial performance in 1995 at Dublin Boeing Theatre was a great success, the group received the Grammy awards for “Best Musical Award” in 1997. Since then the “Riverdance” has been touring non-stop around the globe and attracting fans from all over the world. Current productions are grouped for smaller venues whereas past productions have been performed in large theatres and arenas. Sets have been simplified and some numbers contain fewer performers than in past productions. Each production company is named after an Irish river, currently performing companies are the Boyne touring in North America, Corrib in Europe and Foyle in Ireland.

After 15 years of their first debut performance, the riverdance are now playing their farewell tour around the world returning to UK, Europe and the Far East.
