The World Games, first held in 1981, are an international sports contest of the sports that are not included in the Olympic Games. The contest is organized every four years, a year after each Olympic Games. The competitions are usually limited by the facilities available in the host city; new facilities may not be constructed for the games. There are usually 25 to 35 different sports competitions in the previous World Games. This year, the 8th World Games will be held in Kaohsiung City from July 16th to 26th, and will include at least 47 sports competitions this year. Kaohsiung City government has prepared to host the World Games since 2002, and has won the right to host in 2004. Kaohsiung will not only provide perfect stages for top athletes to perform their best, but also will give them a great opportunity to exchange experiences and to make friends from all over the world. The sports games include: 1. Artistic and Dance Sports: Acrobatic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastic, Artistic Roller Skating, Dance Sport (Latin, R n R, Standard), Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Tumbling Gymnastic. 2. Ball Sports: Beach Handball, Canoe Polo, Fistball, Tchoukball, Korfball, Racquetball, Rugby 7s, Softball, Squash. 3. Martial Arts: Ju-Jitsu, Karate, Sumo, Wushu. 4. Precision Sports: Billiards (Pool, Carom, Snooker), Boules Sports, Bowling, Field Archery. 5. Strength Sports: Bodybuilding, Power lifting, Tug of War (Men Outdoor, Women Indoor). 6. Trend Sports: Air Sports, Climbing (Lead, Speed), Dragon Boat, Fin Swimming, Flying Disc, Lifesaving (Pool, Beach), Orienteering (Sprint, Middle Distance, Team Relay), Roller Sports (Inline Hockey, Speed), Water Ski (Barefoot, Tournament, Wakeboard).
