First held in year 2000, Taroko Gorge Marathon is an annual event that takes place in the world-renowned Taroko National Park in Hualien, Taiwan.

Taroko National Park, one of Taiwan’s most internationally renowned stops, features unparalleled landscapes and sceneries of phenomenal aspects and spectacular topographic wonders, including Taroko Gorge, Baiyang Waterfalls, Shakadang, Tunnel of Nine Turns, Swallow Grottoes (Yanzikou) and many other heavenly treasures. Taroko Gorge Marathon is the only marathon to take place in a gorge surrounded by mountains.

The starting point for both full and half marathon is at the gate of the Cross-island Highway, and the starting point for the 5 kilometer fun run is at the north end of the Chinwen Bridge. The time limit for the full marathon is 6 hours; the time limit for the half marathon is 3 hours, and the time limit for the five kilometer fun run is one hour. The event will limit the field to 10,500 runners to ensure their safety on the winding roads. You are to experience running through the winding routes of Taroko National Park and amazed by the sheer marble walls, dramatic canyons, fierce rapids and tumbling waterfalls.
