About Kaohsiung Light Rail System
Kaohsiung Light Rail System is the first light rail system in Taiwan. The Light Rail, also known as Circular Line, interchange with both the Orange and Red MRT lines, which bisect the city and meet at Formosa Boulevard in the city center. With the launch of Kaohsiung's light rail loop and its planned integration with the Kaohsiung MRT, the effectiveness of Kaohsiung's public transportation system is expected to advance. In addition, light rail trains have low floors, providing a disabled-friendly riding environment that helps promote public use of mass transportation.
Stage 1 construction consists of a section of line from Station C1 to Station C14, where Stations C3 and C14 are the transfer stations to Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit system's Red Line and Orange Line, respectively. The line begins at Lizihnei, following the harbour side and serving business districts, major shopping centers, education institutes, a stadium, the exhibition center, and museums before reaching Hamaxing. The line will be a fully catenary-free route.
