Beijing National Stadium, nicknamed "the Bird's Nest" for its unique architecture, is settled at Olympic Green, located east of the Beijing National Aquatics Center in beijing. The stadium has replaced the original intended venue of the Guangdong Olympic Stadium. Covering 258,000 square meters (330 meters long by 220 meters wide) and owning the capacity of 100,000 spectators. It has about 204,000 square meters usable area. Beijing National Stadium was designed by Herzog & de Meuron (Swiss) and China Architecture Design Institute, groundbreaking in December 2003 and accomplished in March 2008.
