The construction of the Great Hall of the People began in October, 1958, and was completed on September, 1959. It was considered a great project in architecture history.

Built with granite, the Great Hall of the People is composed of 10,000-seat Auditorium in the center, the Banquet Hall in the north, and offices for the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in the south. Chinese Communist Party and other parties often hold politic, diplomatic and social events here. Recent years, more and more concerts or film receptions are held in the Great Hall of the People, which is to really serve the common people.
