Tongpan Island, also known as Tongpan Basalt, is the most magnificent island among basalt poles in Penghu Islands. The island got its name from the shape, resembling upside down bucket and tray. Tongpan Island is renowned for its imposing appearance featuring a typical basalt mesa landform with a shoreline surrounded by cliffs made up of well-developed, neatly stacked basalt columns. Tongpan Island has the reputation of "The Yellowstone Park of the Penghu" because of its spectacular formations and look.
