Taiwan’s First Light Rail System is in Kaohsiung

Taiwan’s first light rail is on the trial run starting this month. Though only four stops are ready at the moment, it includes many Kaohsiung attractions like Kaisyuan Night Market, Jingzuan Night Market, and Dream Mall.

Kaohsiung Light Rail is on the trial run starting October, 2015. There are only 4 stops, from C1 Lizihnei to C4 Kaisyuan Jhonghua. The attractions along the current open route includes Kaisyuan Night Market, Jingzuan Night Market, Dream Mall and the recently selected as one of the 10 must visit libraries, the Kaohsiung Public Library. C3 Cianjhen Star stop share the same location with the Kaoshiung MRT. It’s easy to transfer between the two transportation hubs. Kaoshiung is focusing on promoting the tourism industry. From MRT, bus, C-bike to the light rail, Kaohsiung is providing more and more convenient access around Kaohsiung.
Kaohsiung Light Rail is a centenary-free power supply, low platform, and physical friendly designed vehicle. The exterior in pearl green resembles water, the image of Kaohsiung. The average speed is 30km. It’s TWD 30 per ride and TWD 25 is you use the I-Pass. Kaohsiung Light Rail is to increase the quality and coverage ratio of public transportation in Kaohsiung, while decreasing overall traffic congestion throughout. And of course, a cool new feature benefits the tourism industry.
The Light Rail construction was organized into 2 phases. The first phase connects the heavy tourist areas like Kaisyuan Rueitian, Dream Mall, Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, Commerce and Trade Park, Pier-2, Glory Pier, and Siziwan. The second phase will connect to Urban Spotlight, 85 Sky Tower, Love Pier, and Holy Rosary Cathedral. The light rail is suitable for any business usage as well as leisure travel. It’s a great time to head down Kaohsiung to experience the first light rail in Taiwan and explore Kaohsiung.
