2013 Lukang Dragon Boat Festival

Come to experience an event of intense excitement with the colorfully decorated dragon boats and the cheering of the crowd, as well as many other traditions, rituals and special foods for this particular festival.

Lukang is one of the oldest cities in Taiwan where retains its original structure as it was decades ago, and it has engaged to co-hosted several folk cultural events in order to exalted local customs and traditions. 2013 Lukang Dragon Boat Festival includes dragon boat race and series activities combined with Chang County industries, arts, culture, folklore, heritage, and sightseeing. Dragon boat competition objects to advocate Chinese traditional culture, promote folk sports, and foster international exchange and friendship. In a dragon boat race, competitors in each team sail unanimously and cooperatively towards the finish line. The one who catch the flag in the final is victorious. So exciting and fierce the Dragon Boat Races are that a lot of people are fascinated with it. Alongside the riverbank crowded with tens of thousands of spectators to cheer for the team they support.

The festival begin on May 11th with opening ceremony by using brush and ink to place a dot on each eye of the dragon. Furthermore, a carnival and many fun activities will also be hold from 2013/5/11-6/12, such as a Lukang local snack feast on 6/1 at Longshan Temple, souvenir sale on 6/2 & 6/8-6/11, nostalgic Lukang and cultural exhibitions, calligraphy performances, the memorial ceremony for Lu Ban, and activities in museums. Also, there will be complimentary shuttles with tour guides to introduce the charms of Lukang. Come and join this thrilling and fun-filled festival!
