Wuzhizhou Island

Wuzhizhou Island, also known as Guqizhou Island in ancient times, has an area of 1.48 kilometers (365.7 acres) with an irregular butterfly-like shape and 5.7-km coastline (3.54 miles). This lovely island is just 30 km (18.6 miles) from Sanya.

In the Qing Dynasty, the temple on the island was originally built to commemorate Cang Jie. However with the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the villagers rebuilt the temple to honor the Goddess Matsu, who is the guardian of local fishmen. From 1990s on, Wuzhizhou Island has transformed into a delightful place for leisure and holidays.

Surrounded with tall trees and dense bushes, the whole island is full of a wide variety of plants, over 2700plant varieties. Moreover, there are also hilly mountains on the eastern and southern parts of the island. Looking far into the crystal clear blue sea would be a pleasure on the island. Into the sea, an array of coral reefs, tropical fishes, sea urchins, sea cucumbers await you to discover.
