Ever since you are little, you almost certainly would have heard of the Eiffel Tower or likely learned of it since kindergarten. As the global icon of France, the Eiffel Tower is a major and most visited tourist attraction in Europe. This monument has attracted over 200,000,000 visitors since its construction. One would say that a trip to France is not complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower is named after its designer, Gustave Eiffel, who built the tower from 1887 to 1889. Originally it was constructed solely for the duration of 1889 World Exhibition, which was held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. It was not meant to last after the event. In fact, Gustave Eiffel gave his tower only a permit for the structure to stand for 20 years, and was to be demolished after this time period. However, it was later allowed to remain even after the expiration of the permit due to its superior value and fame. Today, it is one of the most renowned structures in the world.

The Eiffel Tower is 324 meters tall, including the 24-meter antenna. The structure had been the tallest structure for 41 years from 1889 to 1930, until the Chrysler building was built in New York. At the top, the scenery is spectacular, especially in the evening. Make sure your camera batteries are fully charged and the camera memory cards are large enough to take pictures and videos for your memory!
