Located in Muzha, Taipei City, Taipei City Zoo is considered as one of the largest zoos in Asia with the total area of one hundred and eighty-two hectares contains numerous animals. There are various animals appears in the movie as the main character Pi spent so much of his life with animals. In the opening scenes of the movie, about three minutes long, all of the animals were filmed were from Taipei City Zoo includes zebra, rhinoceros, Burmese pythons, ring-tailed lemurs, unaus, Malayan tapirs, Formosan sika deer, leopard, orangutans, flamingos, and a Taiwan native Formosan black bear. Formosan black bear is the only native bear can be found in Taiwan, and the distinctive V-shaped white mark on its chest gives the nickname of white-throated bear. Since the animals in zoo were not trained for movie filming, the film team spent three days in the Zoo and used food to entice the animals into the right position for filming. The entrance of the zoo also appeared in the movie, where is the enclosure of flamingo.

The studio and the wave-generating pool have been planned to open to the public in the future. Visitors may come to see this world’s largest wave pool, which measures 75 meters in length, 30 meters wide and 3 meters deep, enabling 1,000 types of vertical, horizontal and spiral waves, even capable to create a 12-meter-high wave on the screen. The pool contains 12 pneumatic wave generators shipped from United States and rebuilt in Taiwan to replicate open ocean conditions that range from tranquil open seas to the rough storm sequences in the film. Several renowned directors have expressed an interest in filming their movies here. Moreover, Taichung Government plans to build a movie park by 2015, including movie studios, backlots, an editing center and sound stages to provide such functions as collection, preservation, interaction, education and culture, hoping to generate the development of movie industry in Taichung. Now, an exhibition which displays props from the movie Life of Pi is held at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung for you to explore behind the scenes in advance.

Kenting Chialoshui Scenic Area is known of its beautiful landscape in Kenting area which is located on the Pacific Ocean coast of the Hengchun Peninsula 14 kilometers east of the town if Hengchun, Pingtung County, governed by Kenting National Park. Chialoshui is the meaning of waterfall referred to the Shanhai Waterfall, the only waterfall that drops in the sea in Taiwan in Manzhou Township. Chialoshui is the must-go tourist spot when people travel to Pingtong, where full of is oddly shaped rocks carved by strong winds and roaring waves, including honeycombed rocks, pot holes,chessboard stone, sea rabbit stone, sea turtle stone, etc; the place is regards as a native geosciences museum. In addition, Chialoshui is famous not only for it geological oddity but also for the wandering coastline that attracts many hikers and cyclists. This unique and unparalleled site was also selected as a shooting location of the movie Life of Pi.

Baisha Bay is the only Kenting beach on the west side of the peninsula, about 500 meters long, 40 meters wide, stood in for a Mexican beach in the movie, where Pi was finally reached and saved by local residents at the end of the Pi’s journey. Baisha means white sand in Chinese; the white beach is formed by shell sand and embraced by the beautiful coral reefs. Baisha Bay is surrounded by both ocean and mountain and still keeps the original beach and less-construction due to fewer visitors makes it a tranquil and delightful place to go on a vacation. With a picturesque view of blue sky and ocean, the clam waves make it the wonderful spot for swimming and scuba diving, and water activity gear rentals are also available. People who have seen the movie Life of Pi must be stunned by an alluring scene where a sea of bioluminescent fish ignites the water at night. Bioluminescence creatures have the ability to use chemicals within their bodies to produce light, and surprisingly can be found in Houbi Lake in Pingtung, Taiwan. The Houbi Lake is also called by the other beautiful name- the fluorescent sea; however, the bioluminescence creatures caused the blue light above this lake still cannot be determined. According to the local residents, the amount of the bioluminescence creatures will increase during April to May, and the lake will previous to blue light throughout the wide range of the water. Although the lights are weak, yet after the edition and 3D effect added by the movie team, the glories and spectacular scene can be presented in the movie.
