Kaohsiung Hongmaogang Cultural Park

Kaohsiung Hongmaogang Cultural Park is located at the entrance of the port of Kaohsiung’s Second Harbor in Siaogang District, Kaohsiung City. The name of Hongmaogang is given in order to the fact that this area was colonized by the Dutch and Spain. The literal meaning of ‘Hong Mao’ is a red color of hair, so the places or items associated with Westerners in 17th Century were given the title of “Hong Mao.” The cultural park includes six areas: the Gaozi Tower Revolving Restaurant, the Exhibition Hall, the Outdoor Exhibition Area, the Sky Walk, the Pier and Waiting Room, and the Ocean Front Platform.

The Gaozi Tower was a signal tower which is shaped like the Chinese character 高(Gao). It is now a symbol of Kaohsiung Port and represents the development of the Hong Mao Gang community. The tower boasts a wonderful location where tourists may view the panoramic seascape and the intercontinental cargo ships entering into a port. Also, a revolving restaurant is newly set on top of the tower allows guests have a 360-degree view of HongmaokGang while enjoying the meal. The exhibitions in Hongmaogang Cultural Park illustrate the lifestyle, culture and history of the Hong Mao Gang community. Local residents usually devoted to fishing industry for living; hence, visitors may discover the various facets of sea life from the past to the present. The Ocean Front Platform possesses a superb view of Taiwan Strait with large ships, container lifters, and industrial plants, which visitors may enjoy the close look of large ships entering the port.

The mission of the Kaohsiung Hongmaogang Cultural Park is to last the community images of Hong Mao Gang and pass down the culture and history sustained through generations.
