 April through October is a good time to experience whale watching in Hualien, Taiwan. A whale watching trip takes about 2 hours, sometimes slightly longer or shorter depending on the weather of the day. The best time to set out is early in the morning to spot the whales in top form. It requires about a 30 minute boat ride from the Hualien Harbor to the open sea. Hualien is a popular place for whale watching in Taiwan as the waters off Hualien drops dramatically at one point to a depth of 3,000 to 5,000 meters. In addition, the black tide current that flows through the open sea outside Hualien assures abundant foods to the marine life. Hence, dolphins, ocean sunfish, and sting rays may sometimes also be discovered on your whale watching trip.

The harvest festivals are to celebrate the abundant harvest, express gratitude for the blessing of ancestors, thank God for the year’s good harvest and hope for a good harvest in the coming year.

 For ones looking for some excitements, a rafting experience on Siouguluan River - the most famous rafting spot in Taiwan surely will leave an unforgettable Taiwan travel experience. Siouguluan River is 104 kilometers long which is the largest river in the east of Taiwan and the only river that flows across the coast mountains. The rafting trip is about 24 kilometers long and it takes about 3-4 hours to complete, rafters will raft through more than 20 torrents and rapids embraced by beautiful nature sceneries with a multitude shaped stones and topographic features. Rafting is permitted all year round. The high season is usually April to October and the best time for rafting is in the morning from 7:00 to noon. It is not allowed to start after 15:00.
