Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area is situated in Ren’ai Township, Nantou County at an altitude around 1000 meters to 2600 meters, occupying an area about 2700 hectares. Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area is famed for its natural resources, as well as the beautiful maple trees which attract large number of visitors every year. Featuring abundant maple trees and sites, the recreation area is the most popular maple tree viewing spot in Taiwan, earning the name “Home for Maple Trees”.

Covering a large area, visitors may find a diverse of natural sceneries. The recreation area has been planned in various sections including waterfall zone, forest park, maple area and pine tree site.

The waterfall zone has three waterfalls in different appearances due to the unique landscape. Visitors may walk along the one-kilometer-long forest path in the waterfall zone to breathe in phytoncide and appreciate the anions offered by the waterfalls.

The forest park located in the backyard of the Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area is surrounded by Magu River and Bei (North) River with four terraces that share picturesque natural sceneries for the enjoyments of all visitors. Its preserved ecosystems provide an excellent chance for those who live in rush urban cities to relax and unwind.

The maple area is the highlight of Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area surrounded by Nan (South) River and Bei (North) River. The two-kilometer-long romantic maple path and the pine-maple made hanging bridge at the starting point often allures visitors to linger on.

Another highlight that represents Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area is the pine tree site. Visitors may find divine pine trees and unique pine tree features of Quercus variabilis. The pine tree site locates the longest forest path of 2.8 kilometers for you to appreciate the distinctive forest sceneries while being surrounded by delightful phytoncide to sooth your soul and mind.

Do not forget to visit other nearby Nantou attractions such as Lushan Hot Springs, Sun Moon Lake, Cingjing, etc for a delightful Nantou travel.

By Car :
1. National number 1 highway(國道一號), exit Fongyuan offramp(豐原交流道), drive along provincial highway 10 Ja route(10甲省道), switch to provincial highway 3 route(號省道) to Dongshih(東勢), connect to provincial highway 8 route(8號省道) to Dawanlin(大萬嶺), drive towards Hehuanshan(合歡山), turn right onto productive rd(產業道路) towards Wanda(萬大), then drive towards Aowanda(奧萬大) to reach.

2. National number 3 highway(國道三號), exit Caotun offramp(草屯交流道), connect to Tai 14 route(台14線), pass Puli(埔里) to Wushe(霧社), drive along the signs to reach.
