Taiwan Hot Spring Dining & Specials

With the precious quality and elements of hot spring water, many hot spring hotel restaurants offer hot spring cuisines made by hot spring water. Some hot spring areas even create their own exclusive specialties and aboriginal dishes for the enjoyments of the visitors.

Vegetables

Jiaoxi

Jiaoxi is famous for hot spring vegetables; the local government held festivals to promote their farm products include water spinach, loofah, and water bamboo. The hot spring water contains rich minerals that make vegetables sweet and tender. The farm field keeps its temperature between 22 to 33 degrees centigrade, thus the quality of hot spring is able to ensure. Other hot spring farm products are Wufeng tea, hot spring rice, organic rice, and kumquats. 

Yangmingshan

For the high altitude location and hot spring water irrigation, Chuzihu and Lengshueikeng (Cold Water Depression) in Yangmingshan produces vegetables such as cabbages, loofah, tomato, sweet peppers, cucumber, spinach and many more. The water lily season always attracts lots of visitors from February to April.

Onsen Tamago

Onsen Tamago is a boiled egg which is original slow cooked in the water of hot springs. There some hot spring areas in Taiwan possess higher-temperature hot springs that allows visitors to boil eggs or vegetables. You may lower eggs or vegetables in a basket or net into a hot spring to cook slowly for forty minutes or so. The egg will be perfectly medium-rare, a silky smooth melt-in-your-mouth egg white that envelops a creamy golden yolk. 

Dishes

Atayal Dishes

The word "Wulai" comes from the aboriginal language, the Atayal tribe dishes are made with local ingredients, such as Nanshih River shrimp and spicebush chicken soup. The spicebush called "Macau" in Atayal language; it is said that "Macau" would uplift your strength and increase great vigor. Thus, the Atayal tribe frequent uses spicebush for seasoning. The bamboo joint rice is a specialty of Atayal, and it is easy to take away. The local way of making bamboo joint rice is to put raw rice into the cut bamboo joint and steam it, the rice shall have a natural flavor without seasoning.

Trout Dishes

Guguan Hot Spring is one of the hot spring areas located in aboriginal tribe, the features of Guguan Hot Spring are dishes of trout and wild herbs. These produced gardens of mushroom and papaya are also places for tourists to experience natural life. Local restaurants offer healthy set meal goes with the special pine leaves juice made from local abounded pine trees.
