(Taitung) 2010 Harvest Festivals in Taitung- MaKaPaHay!

The annual significant event of the Taiwan aboriginal tribes is the “Harvest Festival”. It is the major event for the tribe to celebrate the abundant harvest and express gratitude for the blessing of ancestors. The Harvest Festival is often held in July and August for it being the time of the rice harvest. Taitung is the home for six aboriginal tribes: Kavalan, Puyuma, Paiwan, Rukai, Amis, and Bunan. A total of 146 harvest celebrations and activities will be held in Taitung this year. Kicking-off with the Fishing Harvest Festival of the Kavalan Tribe on July 2nd, 2010, visitors will learn know more about the tribe's cultures, arts, and customs.

This year, to express the gratitude to the beautiful cultures of the aboriginal tribes, Taitung Government has planned a 9-day festival with a series of splendid events. The Festival is named “MaKaPaHay”, meaning passion, outgoing, and beautiful in the Amis language. During the 9-day (7/17 – 7/25) MaKaPaHay Festival, you are invited to participate in the wide selection of activities including bike tours, traditional archery competitions, carnival parade, singing and dancing plus many others for an unforgettable Taiwan travel. Don’t be shy, you’re welcome to join in the dances and celebrations for a fabulous and distinctive holiday in Taiwan.
