The purpose of museums is to collect, preserve, interpret, and display items of cultural, artistic, or scientific significance for the education of the public. There come many types of museums, from art to history and science. With storing artifacts and exhibition, museums can be entertaining and educational. The National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung is one of the most interesting museums in Taiwan. It’s been selected as one of the top museums in the world.

The National Museum of Natural Science is one of the most popular tourist spots and recreational sites of Taichung. With an area of 22 acres, the National Museum of Natural Science houses six distinct venues excluding the Earthquake Museum in Wufong, the Space IMAX Theater, Life Science Hall, Chinese Science Hall, Science Hall, Botanical Garden, and Global Environmental Hall. Over 30 exhibition areas that cover a wide array of subjects like astronomy, ecology, tropical plants, minerals and kids’ favorite, dinosaurs. The Space IMAX Theater is one of the most popular spots for the visitors; the half three-dimensional doom tilting at 30 degree, display model of the galaxy and shows on scheduled time. With many interactive exhibitions, comfortable space, and visitors gradually increasing each year, the National Museum of Science was selected among one of the top 20 museums in the world.

Other museums around Taiwan are definitely worth visiting as well. Located in Taipei City, the National Palace Museum is the most well known museum in Taiwan displaying the world's greatest and rarest collection of traditional Chinese art crafts and historical documents. It’s a must visit attraction when visiting Taipei and cosen as one of the top museums in Asia. The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium is situated near Kenting National Park, often scheduled in itinerary while traveling to Kenting. Located in Bali, New Taipei City, the distinctive architecture of Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology has been awarded the 2002 "Taiwan Architecture Prize" and 2003 “Far Eastern Architect Awards”. Lanyang Museum, located in Touchen, Yilan is local cultural museum devoted in sustaining the environment. The National Museum of Taiwan History in Tainan houses more than 60,000 pieces of relics, maps, charts and documents obtained from both home and foreign collectors to present the histories, cultures and the interactions among Taiwan ethnic groups.

National Museum of Marine Science and Technology (NMMST) is located in the east of Keelung, creating an exhibitive, educational, and recreational environment for schools and the public. Yingge Ceramic Museum is a place filled with culture and historical characteristics, displaying ceramic exhibitions. Kaohsiung Museum of History, with a cross fusion of Japanese and Chinese architectural design is a museum exhibiting local folklore culture and history of southern Taiwan. Visiting museum is a quickest way to understand and experience the culture. Make sure you visit one or two when you are around.
