Tainan is the home to many historical sites for it was the ancient capital of Taiwan at one time. Visitors may find most of the historical sites within Anping District, which is about 6 minutes away from Tainan Railway Station. Anping Fort (Old Fort Zeelandia), Anping Tree House, Anping Old Street (Yenping Street), Eternal Golden Castle (Yi Zai Golden Castle), and Old Tait & Co Merchant House (Old De-Ji Merchant House) and many other tourist stops can be found in this area.

Anping Fort (Old Fort Zeelandia) was originally called Fort Zeelandia, the fort that was built by the Dutch during their colonial period in 1624.

Anping Tree House is a tree house that used to be a warehouse of Tait & Co in 1867. Today, the tree house is occupied by a giant banyan tree offering unique, mysterious sceneries.

Anping Old Street (Yenping Street) is a narrow, curve passage next to Anping Fort. Anping Old Street is where one can discover many Tainan delicacies and traditional architectures. The street is also known as Yenping Street or 1st Taiwan Street for it was the first street established by the Dutch in Tainan about 300 years ago.

Eternal Golden Castle (Yi Zai Golden Castle) was established to resist the invasion of Japanese during the Peony Suffix Event.

Old Tait & Co Merchant House (Old De-Ji Merchant House) is the former merchant house of Tait & Co Trading Company. It is a western colonial style architecture with a distinctive western look different from the traditional houses in Anping. Today, it serves as a wax museum showcasing the life of old day Taiwan immigrants.

A 2 Day 1 Night Tainan tour surely is not enough to explore these colorful attractions in depth. If you have time, you may also want to plan a longer stay in Tainan for a memorable ecotour or culinary tour for your Taiwan travel.
Named one of this year’s best winter trips, Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail began its operation in 2007, zipping across Taiwan’s valleys, plains, and Central Mountain Range foothills from Taipei south to Kaohsiung which serves as a gateway to the tropical Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area, Kenting National Park and Maolin National Scenic Area, home to four of Taiwan’s aboriginal groups – Rukai, Paiwan Bunun and Tsou.

With the establishment of the high-speed rail, an easy day trip can be made on a roundtrip western high-speed rail loop from Taipei and back, giving you enough time to discover Taiwan’s fascinating splendors and sample all kinds of authentic Taiwan dishes at the city’s famous night markets and restaurants. Also, the neighborhood surrounding HSR Hsinchu Station has been chosen to host the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival from February 23 to March 10, 2013. There will be thousands of animated and traditional artistic lanterns illuminating the night skies of Hsinchu.
