The National Palace Museum Southern Branch is scheduled to open for soft opening on December 28, 2015. The admission is free for the first three month, with online reservation only. Visitors can book their visit for the next month on every 20th of each month. To ensure the best quality visit, the NPM Southern Branch will implement crowd control in the soft opening; therefore will not provide on-site ticket until April 1st, 2016.

Located in Taibao City, Chiayi County, the NPM Southern Branch has been setting as an "Asian Arts and Culture Museum”, hoping to achieve cultural equity between the Northern and the Southern regions of Taiwan, and to drive the cultural, educational, social, and economic development in both regions. With vast area, the museum covers artificial wetlands, tropical gardens, waterfront arena, two artificial lakes, and other recreational areas.

The NPM Southern Branch will feature main exhibitions that display artifacts from National Palace Museum’s rich collection of artifacts while supplementing them with international loan exhibitions. And of course, there will be a variety of astonishing exhibitions to fulfill its duty as a museum for artifact collection, research, conservation, education, and exhibition as well as to introduce artifact-derived leisure and recreational activities, and engage in cultural and creative operations.
