Sanyi Township is located in the southern Miaoli County. Close to Taichung, it is in the climate changing zone of northern Taiwan and central Taiwan. It is mostly foggy from November to March. The weather offers great environment for the camphor wood. The unique smell of camphor wood was used for wood carving and sculpturing by the local artist and the skills, techniques were taught and passed down. Thus Sanyi became the professional wood carving town we know today. As the Sanyi Wood-Carving Festival promotes the town annually, it is a great chance for the locals to present unique skills via diversity of activities as well as spread out the knowledge through art and joy.
